Louis the XIV made the Palace of Versailles his principal residence and the kingdom’s seat of power in 1682.
During this visit of the chateau, adults and children get to know Louis XIV through his love of the arts and through his political, social and economic prowess.
The famous Hall of Mirrors, comprised of no less that 357 mirrors, reflects a splendid view of the grounds. This hall also houses the famous treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919.
The King’s Room
In this room, previously where the king’s throne was, is a painting we often see in history books. The famous portrait of Louis XIV in royal garb, painted by Hyacinthe Rigaud, gives us an opportunity to reflect on this iconic image of the French king, complete with fleur-de-lis, crown, sceptre, sword and its implication for future generations.
Hall of Mirrors
In 1682 Louis XIV gets settled, surrounded by his court at the Palace of Versaille, symbol of his power.
Through the apartment’s decor and an account of this absolute ruler’s typical day we discover his personality, a man of taste and lover of the arts.
